IS THIS CLASS FOR ME?
This class is for moms of all fitness levels. Whether you are occasionally exercising, training for a race, or searching for a fitness routine, Mama Beast classes has something for you! Safe modifications are always offered for varying abilities. Moms must be at least 6-weeks postpartum (or 8 weeks for c-section) and have been cleared to exercise by their doctor. Even after medical clearance, we encourage newly postpartum moms to start with our modified classes. Pregnant moms must receive written clearance from their doctors during each trimester of pregnancy.
WHAT DO I NEED?
You will need a stroller. It doesn't have to be a jogging one unless we are outside and you would like to run your laps. Walking is always an option and encouraged for our moms who are just returning to exercise. You will need water, a yoga mat, and resistance band. If it is your first class, you can borrow a resistance band. After, we recommend Slastix toners, like these ones. Snacks and favorite toys for the Baby Beasts can help, too.
DO CHILDREN HAVE TO STAY IN THE STROLLER?
Yes, for safety reasons, all babies and children must remain in stroller during class. We do allow little ones to warm up with us (first ten minutes) and do core work on mats (last 15 minutes). During the time they are in the stroller, we do our best to keep them moving and entertained with singing, music and movement. Baby Beasts are also known to be quite the motivators and love cheering for their mamas during class! For children 4 and up, we do have a babysitter at playground for outdoor classes during the summer. For indoor classes, we have an area where older children are welcome to sit, color, and play.
WHAT IF MY BABY CRIES OR IS NOT HAVING IT?
We have all been there! And chances are, a fellow Mama Beast will be offering to hold a fussy baby because that's just how this group rolls! If you need to stop to feed, change a diaper, or navigate a toddler tantrum, we totally understand and it is not a big deal. Classes are structured to maximize your time and even with a disruption, you'll still get a great work-out in -- next to other moms who understand it's not always pretty!
WHAT ABOUT RAINY DAYS AND WINTER? DO YOU STILL HAVE CLASS?
Yes! For West Roxbury and Walpole classes, you will receive an email by 8AM if class needs to be moved to our indoor locations due to the rain.
Our West Roxbury indoor location is either St Theresa School or the Elks Lodge #10. For Walpole, we meet at Fore Kicks in Norfolk.
I'M NOT SURE ABOUT THIS WHOLE "BEAST" THING. WILL THIS WORK-OUT BE TOO MUCH FOR ME?
No. All moms are beasts. That's just a fact! These classes allow you a fun and safe outlet to unleash your inner beast. You may start out with modifications to all exercises and progress as you get stronger. The work-outs are designed to be intense. But they include options so that you are working at an intensity that feels right for YOU. During outdoor classes, you always have the option to walk or run laps. Classes are often split into two groups, in order for moms of different fitness levels to receive appropriate options and assistance from instructors.
THE EXERCISING SEEMS GREAT AND ALL, BUT I SEE A LOT OF SOCIAL OUTINGS, RACES, AND OTHR FUN STUFF. HOW DO I GET IN ON THAT?
Having fun and a strong sense of community are just as important as the work-outs at Mama Beasts! We have monthly night's out, frequent after-class play-dates, and free team fitness challenges several times a year. Learn all about the fun here!
