March MB Musts

We don’t know everything, but we know a few good things.

We’re Reading:

All in Her Head: The Truth and Lies Early Medicine Taught Us About Women’s Bodies and Why It Matters Today

By Elizabeth Comen, MD

This book is powerful — and was released just in time for our body issue. Oncologist and medical historian Dr. Elizabeth Comen dives into the often infuriating and heartbreaking medical myths that have hindered the care of women for decades. It’s a much-needed call for a closer examination of women’s health care, even today, from an empathetic and whip-smart Comen, who often reflects on the thousands of women she has treated as a physician. A must-read!

The Joy of Movement

By Kelly McGonigal

We may be biased as the power of movement was at the heart of our stroller fitness program and community, but this book is a smart celebration of how exercise can connect us and also protect us from the modern epidemics of depression, anxiety and loneliness.

What My Bones Know

By Stephanie Foo

This exquisite memoir about recovering from complex PTSD will devastate and inspire you all at once. If you’ve ever struggled with any type of mental illness, Foo’s insight and journey is one you want to hear.

Menopause Brain

By Lisa Mosconi PhD

As a leading neuroscientist and women’s brain health specialist, Dr. Mosconi unravels menopause mysteries by revealing how menopause doesn’t just impact the ovaries—it’s a hormonal show in which the brain takes center stage.

We’re Watching

Ok, so we plan to watch this after our bestie boo recommended Netflix’s One Day series, based on David Nicholls’ bestselling 2009 romance novel. You may recall in 2012 Anne Hathaway starred in a movie version that was not well-received (to put it kindly). However, this new series is earning rave reviews and who doesn’t need a decade-spanning love story for a delightful binge escape from reality these days?

We’re Loving

Kara Alaimo’s book, Over The Influence is out in the world! And she collaborated with MB contributor Lauren A. Tetenbaum of The CounseLaur to celebrate the release in NYC and hold an important discussion on how we can use social media to empower ourselves. Lauren and Kara met when they were both panelists during our holiday stress summit. We love the connection made and collaboration!
