Exploring Menopause Treatment Options

H2T Skin and Laser Center now offers bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) for women

As we reported in our very first issue, menopause is having a moment. From the New York Times declaring last year that “Women Have Been Misled About Menopause” to celebrities like Oprah, Michelle Obama and Drew Barrymore sharing their personal stories, there has been increased awareness surrounding a taboo topic and with it – increased hope and education of treatment options.

For years, many women have suffered silently and been miseducated about menopause – the natural process that occurs when a woman’s ovaries stop producing eggs and the production of female hormones (estrogen and progesterone) declines. Natural menopause happens gradually over years (known as perimenopause) and therefore, so do the unpleasant symptoms. Women are sometimes surprised to learn that while the average age for reaching menopause is 51, symptoms can start in your late 30s and 40s.

One treatment option for menopausal symptoms is hormone replacement therapy (HRT) which supplements your hormone levels to rebalance your system. Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) matches the molecular structure of your natural hormones. H2T Skin and Laser Center Owner Matt Azulay-LaFever, NP-C, began offering BHRT as he witnessed the benefits as a provider and patient.

“As we age, the hormone levels in our bodies change,” he said. “For women and men alike, this leads to aging skin, more fat, less muscle, weaker bones, loss of energy, insomnia, depression and anxiety, issues with intimacy and an overall decreased sense of well-being. I’ve even seen marriages fail and careers end. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) may help you get your life back.”

According to Azulay-LaFever, BHRT can reduce or eliminate the symptoms that occur during the menopausal phase of the female experience. The treatment is designed to replace the hormones your body is not producing during perimenopause and menopause and may provide relief from symptoms including:

  • Hot flashes and night sweats

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Loss of libido

  • Painful sexual intercourse due to vaginal dryness and loss of tissue elasticity

  • Mood changes

  • Weight gain

  • Thinning hair and dry skin

H2T offers several package options for hormonal support for women as they progress through their life stages can include estrogen, progesterone and testosterone for the alleviation of symptoms. Learn more about HRT treatments and book your consult here.
